Aziya is a female artist from Kazakhstan based in Prague. SHE explores abstract figurative genre, using oil on canvas, and portrays women as her main subject.
The late 80s in her homeland Kazakhstan were a transition period that exuded freedom and a new way of living. Sudden access to global media challenged the status quo and played a significant role in shaping Aziya’s vision.
Aziya was born to a family of artists and cinematographer. Raised amidst the captivating ambiance of theater backstages, where her mother performed, and studios resonating with the rhythmic chiseling of her sculptor father, Aziya’s upbringing played a pivotal role in shaping her artistic inclinations. The intimate connection with the world of creativity within her family sparked a passion that would later drive her to pursue her first academic degree in visual arts in the United States.
Motivated by the transformative power of media, she later pursued her second BA and MA in media and communications. Having lived in both the U.S. and Europe, Aziya actively promotes cultural dialogue through her art. Currently residing in Prague, she believes in the profound communicative potential of art, rooted in her artistic heritage and cross-cultural experiences.
Aziya's subjects embody the depth of women's stories while radiating kindness and serenity that transcend boundaries.
In Aziya’s portraits, women confront the viewer with a bold defiance. Positioned at the heart of the canvas, her subjects exude both confidence and dignity, coupled with a nuanced sense of formidable vulnerability. The incorporation of traditional fabrics or tapestry motifs, along with a pink spray-painted frame, introduces a dynamic interplay of spatial depth and temporal elements.
Aziya, through her portrayal of women, guides us in an exploration of diverse cultural and social identities.
Aziya’s work is a visual ode to the captivating stories that lie within each woman’s soul. She believes that every woman possesses a unique narrative that deserves to be shared, cherished, and honoured.
Aziya strives to create a space where their voices can resonate and their stories can unfold. Through her work, Aziya invites you to witness the beauty and complexity of the feminine spirit, and to join her in celebrating the incredible diversity that defines our shared human experience.
